Mountain Moving Worms...
I was raking some leaves along our driveway and noticed dozens of fishing worms. They were eroding the hillside...I stopped and thought, "You know, God doesn't need dynamite people with bulldozing methods to move mountains when a bunch of lowly worms working together can get the job done!" I got excited because I vaguely remembered that God had once called Jacob a "worm."
Isaiah 41:14 NIV (emphasis mine)
"'Do not be afraid, O worm Jacob, O little Israel, for I myself will help you,' declares the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel. 'See, I will make you into a threshing sledge, new and sharp, with many teeth. You will thresh the mountains and crush them, and reduce the hills to chaff.'"
Jacob became God's mountain moving worm!
In Psalm 22:6 David referred to himself as a worm when he said, "But I am a worm and not a man..." How interesting! Bildad in Job 25:6, comparing man with God, calls man a worm.
To call oneself a "worm"...especially when the Hebrew translation of this word means "maggot," is certainly knowing what you really are when compared to God's righteousness. Jacob and David, I believe, were mightily used by God because of their humility... because they boasted only in what He did in and through them. Another interesting characteristic of a maggot is that it reproduces itself extremely fast.
Next time you think that you are not "good enough" to be used by God...just consider yourself to be a "maggot," and remember that with God all things are possible. God uses anyone yielded to Himself...ANYONE!
I Corinthians 1:27-31 (emphasis mine)
"But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things--and the things that are not--to nullify the things that are, so that NO ONE MAY BOAST BEFORE HIM. IT IS BECAUSE OF HIM THAT YOU ARE IN CHRIST JESUS, WHO HAS BECOME FOR US WISDOM FROM GOD--THAT IS, OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS, HOLINESS AND REDEMPTION. Therefore, as it is written: "Let him who boasts boast in the Lord."
Se'lah...Now that's something to pause and think about!
