Yer Not Gonna Squeeze the Life Outta Me!
You've met him...the guy at church that spots you and runs over to give you that big "bear hug" and he nearly squeezes the life out of you. The next time you see him, you run in the other direction. Haha! It's not that you dislike him, you're just not quite as full of the love and enthusiasm that he is, especially THAT EARLY in the morning! (Uhmm, there's some women like that too!)
One day I was sitting on the couch and up out of a hollow tree stump right next to our back door rose up a HUGE snake. I jumped up on the couch, as if THAT was going to protect me, and besides the door between us was shut. But, I wanted to be no place near that snake and I reacted like it was a mouse I needed to flee from...God did a great job when He placed "enmity" between me and the serpent! (The women will understand what I'm saying...)
My husband informed me that it was a "GOOD SNAKE"...yeah right! However, it was of the constrictor type. He refused to kill it because, according to him, it would devour the "bad snakes" like the water moccasins and copperheads. So, instead of killing the snake, he chased it down the hillside with a water hose.
I tried to tell him that if it came back and somehow got into the house, it wouldn't have to be poisonous, or squeeze me to death, that just its presence would give me a heart attack if it got anywhere near me. I didn't want to just chase that snake away, I wanted it annihilated!
The old serpent, the devil, is squeezing the LIFE out of many believers today.
He's using a clever approach. He's getting believers to "halfheartedly" love and serve the Lord...he's employing their old nature and persuading them to compromise, and little by little the life of the Son of God is being squeezed out.
They have no joy, no enthusiasm and excitement; life has become a daily drudgery...they find themselves hating to face the next day. They have NO LIFE because their faithfulness has transferred to things, wants and personal desires. Christ has taken back seat. Please hear me...Jesus in not a back seat driver. He'll allow you to veer off course and patiently wait for you to return to Him. If your intention was to take Him as LORD OF YOUR LIFE...He has to be Lord of ALL, or He will not be Lord AT ALL.
Ponder on these verses for a while, and if you find that the "life" is being squeezed out of you, don't just chase the devil down the hill to later return, stamp out his presence with repentance and returning to the Lord...
I John 5:10-12 (emphasis mine)
"He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life."
Ephesians 4:17-24 NIV
So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts, having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more.
You however, did not come to know Christ that way. Surely you heard of Him and were taught in Him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. You were taught, with regard to your former way of life; to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
Rooted and grounded in Christ Jesus,
