Seed for the Soul
"While
the earth remaineth,
Seedtime and harvest
....shall not cease"
Genesis
8:22
In TROUBLED Times...
I was busily preparing for a birthday party with anywhere between 50-75 teens expected to attend. My husband really needed to get to his job, but I kept adding "just one more thing" to my list of "musts" before he left. I placed a huge pan of baked beans in the oven, and went off to do something else. A few minutes later the oven was ablaze. The coil had burned clear through. Fortunately, my husband was still here to see it and get the fire under control. Had he left, there is a good chance it could have been a serious disaster. Was I truly fortunate, or was there a greater power at work? The truth is, I don't believe in good fortune or bad fortune, unless it is predestined by the Lord.
I announced to the devil early this morning that I don't believe in Friday the 13th, and that I am not superstitious. I told him he has no authority or control over my life. It belongs to Jesus, and He holds my hand...but that didn't stop the enemy from trying to make me eat my words and to try to place doubt in my heart.
When we meditate on God's living word night and day, speak it out, declare it and trust it, I'm convinced that the enemy cannot penetrate through the shield it places around us, unless God permits it for a specific purpose. We can see that, especially in the book of Job.
All day yesterday, I meditated on these verses:
Psalms 27:1-6 (LB...emphasis mine)
THE LORD IS my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?
The one thing I want from God, the thing I seek most of all, is the priviege of meditating in his Temple, living in his presence every day of my life, delighting in his incomparable perfections and glory. There I'll be when TROUBLES COME. He will hide me. He will set me on a high rock out of reach of all my enemies.
Psalms 34:18-20 LB
The Lord is close to those whose hearts are breaking; he rescues those who are humbly sorry for their sins. The good man does not escape all troubles -- he has them too. But the Lord helps him in each and every one. God even protects him from accidents.
I am certain that God kept us from what could have been a tragic mishap. However, there have been times I've been in accidents. Having an accident or problem does not mean that we are necessarily out of God's will...what it DOES MEAN is that it is an opportunity for us to allow the Lord to help us in every situation. I've never had a mishap that I have not been better off for afterwards, and I was sick for many years with a toxic chemical exposure. As I look back, I can praise God and thank Him for His help, direction, changes in me, and many other blessings that He brought out of what should have been a disaster to my life and ministry. I started PrayerVine during this time... 0:)
We have no reason to fear Friday the 13th, or Saturday the 14th as far as that goes, for His promise is that He is there to help us through each and EVERY day! PRAISE GOD!
Psalms 32:7
You are my hiding place from EVERY STORM OF LIFE; You even keep me from getting into trouble! You surround me with songs of victory.
Psalms 46:1, 5
GOD IS OUR refuge and strength, a tested help in TIMES OF TROUBLE. And so we need not fear even if the world blows up, and the mountains crumble into the sea......He stands unmoved despite the turmoil everywhere. He will not delay His help.
Planted and rooted in Christ Jesus,
