"My Mistake!"
What usually happens when we make a mistake? The Lord taught me something the other day when I mistakenly sent the PrayerVine Prayer Requests to the mailing list that is to receive the TexasSower devotionals only. First thoughts that came to me when I realized what I had done was..."You are so dense...how'd you do that? Why weren't you paying attention to what you were doing? How stupid can you be?" It was all CONDEMNATION attacking my ability and character.
Do you think that came from God? From the God who said:
Isaiah 1:18
"Come now, let us reason together," says the Lord. Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool."
A God THAT merciful surely wouldn't condemn me for a MISTAKE....and He does not do that. We do it to ourselves by allowing the enemy to flood our minds with things contrary to God's Word. I thought...How much more the enemy is condemning those who are committing known sins, or who are under bondage.
And when they look for some help, often times instead of help others pile right on the band wagon by adding more condemnation, just like Job's friends did to him.
One time I heard a minister say, "I don't take the glory when something goes right, so I'm not going to take the blame when things that are not in my control go wrong." That's pretty good advice. We can get ourselves so beat down by criticizing ourselves and condemning ourselves that we can't look up: we begin to think, "What's the use! I'm no good. I'm a failure, etc., etc." With this mind set, how are we ever going to bring hope to someone else? Do you see what I am saying?...The devil uses our own thoughts to beat us down until we not only cannot help ourselves, but are of little to no help to others.
The next time this happens to you...and the next time it happens to me...let's put our thoughts through the "Think On" check list:
Philippians 4:8 (NIV emphasis mine)
Finally, brethren, whatsoever thing are TRUE, whatsoever things are HONEST, whatsoever things are JUST, whatsoever things are PURE, whatsoever things are LOVELY, whatsoever things are of GOOD REPORT, if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, THINK ON these things.
And, I'd like to say...whatsoever thoughts are not on this list...TRASH THEM!
By the way, the "mistake" I made didn't turn out to be a mistake at all...there were about 50 people on the TexasSower list that wanted to be a part of the PrayerVine Prayer Team and they didn't know how to do it, or weren't even aware of it...they were happy to receive the prayer page. And I haven't had one condemning email about my (apparently) "Spirit led mistake"...
Thank You, Lord, for You are GOOD, and it is Your goodness that we walk in day by day.
Psalms 37:23
The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and He delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand.
Se'lah...just stop and think about that!
Planted and rooted in Christ Jesus,
