Faith-bearing Seed for the Soul
"While the earth remaineth,
Seedtime and harvest
....shall not cease"

Genesis 8:22

What Do You Need?

One of our favorite verses to quote when we have need of daily necessities such as food, clothing and housing is---

Philippians 4:19

But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Almost every time you hear this verse quoted it is misquoted and the majority of the time it is misunderstood... Here's why.

We invariably say... "...my God shall supply all my needs according to his riches in glory..." It does not say "needs," even though God does supply our needs (plural). This word "need" means MUCH MORE!

It means EMPLOYMENT according to Strong's Concordance of Bible words.  This verse states that God will supply the MEANS (business or activity) which will provide for the necessities. In the Greek there are five different words that are translated as "need" in English. The particular word in this case is the word that is referring to the succession of events that provide a business or employment.

I have seen many people believing that they are living on faith as they pray daily for God to miraculously drop their "needs" from heaven, when God clearly promises to supply our employment to meet those needs. It appears that all of their energies are being expended towards this effort rather than their moving onto greater levels of faith. In addition, they are often found begging or manipulating in the name of Christianity, which is a contradiction, for David wrote that he has never seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread. (Psalms 37:25)

I Timothy 5:8

"But if any provide not for his own, and specifically for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel."

Those called into ministry differ in that their employment, job, or work is that of the ministry. When that is the case, they have a choice...to have God provide additional employment to meet their necessities, or to be provided for by those they are ministering to. Paul chose to have a job of tent making to supply his and many of his helper's daily necessities so that he was free to preach the Gospel without restraints. He wanted to speak the Truth without considering what those paying his "salary" might think. Others in the ministry receive compensation from those they minister to, also in accordance to the word. In I Timothy 5:18 we are told to not muzzle the ox that tread out the corn, and that a laborer is worthy of his reward. There is nothing more disheartening than to find one in ministry begging for their daily bread.

What we really need!

Satan often defeats God's people because they are not clear about what the Word says or means. It is therefore necessary that we know and study the Word so that all of our needs may be met in accordance to His will and plan, without bringing shame or reproach upon His name.

Hosea 4:6

"My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge..."

II Timothy 2:15

"Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."
