Miraculous Mountaintop Seeds!

(Since this is our 50th seed, I am taking the liberty to do a more in depth study.)

Luke 9:57...

"...a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest."

He said with his mouth that he would follow NO MATTER WHAT, but did he? Right after this was said, Jesus explained what some of the cost to follow Him would be, and immediately many started giving excuses why they couldn't follow Him...some of these excuses pertained to taking care of their families first. "Let me go bury my father first." (and another) "Let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house." Though families need to be taken care of, lest we be called an infidel (I Tim. 5:8), taking care of them is no excuse for not following Him. In contrast, we see immediate obedience and Abraham's faith, when God asked him for his son.

Genesis 22:1-3 (emphasis mine)

"Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about. Early the next morning Abraham got up and saddled his donkey.....he set out for the place God had told him about."

Too often we desire the "mountaintop experiences" without being willing to climb the mountains that God has chosen for us! Know that God has a miracle waiting at the top of your mountain...waiting for  you to get to that place OF GOD'S CHOOSING... It is being "held" there for you by God, waiting for your arrival, just like the sacrificial ram was waiting for Abraham...the ram that God provided that would be sacrificed in place of his son Isaac. Our faith must first be tested regarding many promises before they are supplied! It's possible to miss our miracles if we shrink back!

Abraham knew that God's promise to make him a nation was supposed to come through Isaac. Yet in obedience he climbed the mountain that God directed him to, willing to sacrifice his son. He trusted God and it was counted unto him as righteousness, the Word tells us. When we are willing to let our own understanding of how and where our miracle is supposed to happen die, believing that God will miraculously supply in His own time and place, our personal MIRACLES will surface "on the mountain God has told us about". He tells us what He expects of us, when we are willing to obey.

Abraham didn't need a miracle until he climbed the mountain, did he? Had Abraham not climbed the mountain in faith that he and his son would return, God would have let the miracle He had waiting for him go, and Abraham's promise to become a great nation probably would have fled with the ram, due to his lack of faith and obedience...How many miracles have we lost out on because we refused to continue in faith and obedience?

Had Abraham pulled his hand back from the plough and not trusted God, after starting out in faith, when God told him to take out his knife and put Isaac to death, he would not have been worthy to become the father of faith for others to follow. Abraham could have right then taken his son back down the mountain and entirely missed the miracle that God had prepared for him. I believe Abraham had LEARNED his lesson the "first time around the mountain" when he and Sarah's fleshly attempt to bring forth an heir through Sarah's maidservant failed. Sarah and Abraham experienced the conflicts when Hagar bore Ishmael, the son who brought heartache and upheaval...conflicts that continue even today. They had learned, through their previous unbelief, that trusting in the faithfulness of God was the only way.

Hebrews 11:6,11 LB (Emphasis mine)

"You can never please God without faith, without depending on Him. Anyone who wants to come to God must believe that there is a God and that he rewards those who sincerely look for him."

"Sarah, too, had faith, and because of this she was able to become a mother in spite of her old age, for she realized that God, who gave her His promise would certainly do what He said."

The NIV version says it this way: "Sarah judged Him faithful who had promised."

When Abraham and Isaac started up the mountain to sacrifice to God,  Abraham believed that he and his son would return, no matter what. Now,  that's STEPPING OUT in faith! Abraham's willingness to give up his promise was WALKING OUT that faith. Abraham didn't turn back or even look back... he obeyed, he kept on plowing forward...that was cultivating MIRACULOUS MOUNTAINTOP SEEDS!

Genesis 22:16-18

By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son: That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.

Just keep on, no matter WHAT you are facing, and DON'T TURN BACK! All that you need is enough faith to follow the plough! You can be sure that those trials that God has ordained to test you with will have a miracle waiting, in due time. And as for the temptations and trials that  our enemy places in front of us...all we need do is, with a little faith, rebuke them and they will fall away.

Matthew 17:20 LB

"For if you had faith even as small as a tiny mustard seed you could say to this mountain, 'Move!' and it would go far away. Nothing would be impossible."

Luke 9:62

"And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God."

But Abraham...

Genesis 22:14 (Emphasis mine)

"....looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son. So Abraham called that place THE LORD WILL PROVIDE. And to this day it is said, "On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided."
