Faith-bearing Seed for the Soul
"While the earth remaineth,
Seedtime and harvest
....shall not cease"

Genesis 8:22

I love YOU! I Need YOU!

After having a stroke, granddaddy was lying in a semi-coma and paralyzed in his bed at home while his granddaughter talked to him as if he could hear every word, and as if nothing had changed. Her mother overheard her saying this to him, "Granddaddy, I'm so glad that you are here with me. I really need you."

Was this little girl looking to what her granddaddy could do FOR HER to need him? No, not at all. She knew all the things that he had already done for her...the times they walked together, the times he had comforted her when she was hurt. She already had memories of all the good THINGS he had given to her, and she also knew that it was not those THINGS that she needed. She just needed to have her granddaddy there with her.

Have you ever truly needed someone, not for what they could do for you, but just because of who they were? To want someone to be in your presence because you knew what was in their heart, and it wasn't anything but to share their presence that you needed? You have come to trust them, to rely upon their character, and to cling to the love that they continually expressed to you...and you know that if they were to become physically incapable of doing anything FOR you, you still needed them to be a part of your life? That's how this little girl felt about her granddaddy. She just needed him to be there. Their relationship developed to this stage because of the time they had spent together, and she had come to KNOW the HEART of her granddaddy.

How often do we want to be with God just for WHO He is? How often do we want to just sit and talk to Him, to be in His presence not asking Him to do something FOR US, but to just spend time being WITH HIM? To need what He is capable of, and to need and receive His blessings are not the same as to just need Him for Himself, WHO He is.

A proud person cannot admit that they need anyone, especially their need for God. And it is nearly impossible to feel a need for someone that you do not trust. Pride and fear keep us farther away from God than we realize. Fear shows that we are not fully convinced that He loves us and it will keep us from desiring to be in His presence.

I John 4:18 LB

We need have no fear of someone who loves us perfectly; His perfect love for us eliminates all dread of what he might do to us.If we are afraid, it is for fear of what he might do to us, and shows that we are not fully convinced that he really loves us.

Proverbs 29:23

Pride ends in a fall, while humility brings honor.

Granddaddy wouldn't be doing anything else with or for the little girl physically, but she still had her granddaddy and that was all that mattered to her. Things and blessings can be taken away, but NOTHING can separate us from the love of God, according to Romans 8:35-39. Paul came to realize that all he NEEDED was to know Christ, and Paul also realized that everything else in life was to be considered as "dung" before such a relationship could be established.

Philippians 3:7-8,10 LB

But all these things that I once thought very worthwhile--now I've thrown them all away so that I can put my trust and hope in Christ alone. Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the priceless gain of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. I have put aside all else, counting it worth less than nothing, in order that I can have Christ, and become one with Him. Now I have given up everything else--I have found it to be the only way to really know Christ and to experience the mighty power that brought him back to life again....

To come to know and need Him for Himself, and not for all that he will do for us, is when we will find that everything truly important has already been met by being one with Him...nothing else matters.

I love YOU, Lord...I need You!
