Storm Supplies
In East Texas when we are alerted that a tornado with severe thunderstorms is going to be in the area, we get our storm supplies out, as I'm sure people preparing for other types of storms, in other areas of the country do. We can listen in anticipation over the radio and television to warnings to others in the path of a storm...especially when our coastal friends are expecting a hurricane, to "PREPARE!... Get your water stored...food, batteries and your flashlights out! Be ready! Get prepared!" Most households who live in storm areas are equipped to ride out the storms, partly because of the encouragement and warnings from others a little more knowledgable, to be ready.
There are always those, however, no matter what they have heard, who are not prepared, for whatever the reason. They have no water, no light, scarcely enough, or no, food...and that's where the service organizations such as the Red Cross and the Salvation Army become involved. Many times, even for those who were prepared, the storms can be so devastating that even with preparations, assistance is needed to help save lives.
There is one thing certain that God's people can count on...there will be storms that will come into our Christian walk, and we have beenwarned to be prepared for them. Are you prepared?
I Peter 4:12-14a KJ
Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; then, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you.....
We are warned that the storms WILL come, yet we are told to rejoice because these storms prove that we are His and that we will be with Him for eternity when it's all over. We are also promised that we will be saved through these storms. This is not so for the ungodly.
I Peter 4:17-18 KJ
For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?
Storm supplies for the believer are essential:
God's light! We need a lamp to see where we are, to see all the things going on immediately around us, and a light to flash out ahead of us to see where we are going.
Psalms 119:105
Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.
Water! For drinking and for cleansing.
John 4:14
Whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.
John 7:38-39 NIV
"If a man is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him." By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.
He said that believers, those who trust in Him, cling to Him, rely upon Him, and live their lives for Him, will go on to receive the Holy Spirit.
Ephesians 5:26
...Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.
God's Word convicts us, causing us to repent and cleanse our hearts.
Food! Jesus is the Word that was with God. He is our portion!
Luke 4:4 KJ
Jesus answered him, it is written: That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.
John 6:35
And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
Be prepared for the storms...and if you have an abundance of His Word stored within you, the Holy Spirit flowing out of you, and Christ expressing Himself through you...you have been prepared to volunteer to help others in the midst of their storms! Jesus needs YOU!
