Don't forget to ask Me about this!

James 4:2,3 NIV

"You want something but don't get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures."

These verses tell us SOME reasons why we don't receive... BUT, they also have a positive message included. They tell us that many of our pure motivated desires are not obtained because we try to get them ourselves and forget to ask GOD for them. The other day I was thinking about a girlfriend, my best friend all through high school. I lost track of her after graduation. I've looked for her in many ways for years. I've called people I thought would know her,  all with no success. I whispered a simple prayer to God the other day after I had just read that "I have not because I ask not," and I told Him that I'd sure love to see her again.

The following day a "Find your high school friends" link came  up on my screen. There were only 7 people from my school registered at the site and only one, that I didn't know, from my graduating class of about 1,500. But, I registered my name anyway. It turned out that the one I didn't know is the person trying to find all of our graduating class for a reunion, and she had been looking for me since 1981. Guess what else? She had my girlfriend's and some other friends' current addresses!!! All those years that I did all within my power to find my friends unsuccessfully immediately ended when I asked the Lord to do it for me... I have a prayer ministry and forget to ask Him for some of the simple desires of my heart...I'm wondering how many of you are doing the same thing?

We have not, because we ask (God) not. It would be a sad day to enter heaven and find long lists of things God was ready to give us, waiting there for us to ask Him for them, wouldn't it?

Ask and ye shall receive!
